If you want to get in one some real fun pre-season fishing look no further than the local carp run! Just 10 miles south of Beaver Dam the Lowell Dam carp run is just starting to turn on. Buffalo Carp and Yellow Carp will make there way up river and they are hungry and aggressive! I use a 1/8 ounce to 1/4 ounce jig head with a bright twister tail. Throw the jig into the current and the carp will eat it on the way downstream. My buddy and I figured this out a couple of years ago while walleye fishing and we had a blast! Use 20-30lb braided line and a 6.5-7 foot medium-heavy action rod. Then hold on tight! These fish will test your drag and your arm strength!
Here is an average size buffalo that I caught this week while fishing with my friend Ray. We had them on every cast but only landed about 6 in 2 hours.
